Guadalupe and The Villuercas-Ibores-Jara Geo-Park
Few places have a landscape as spectacular as the set of hills and valleys that form the regions of Villuercas, Ibores and La Jara. This area recently designated Geo - park, is a vast refuge for Mediterranean forest, as well as rare species that have been living here for years with different climatic conditions.
In this environment is the town of Guadalupe, one of the main artistic, religious and tourism in Extremadura. In it we find the Monastery of Our Lady of Guadalupe, a World Heritage Site and a National Historic -Artistic Monument.
The Royal Monastery of Guadalupe houses important illustrated books, embroidery, reliquaries, paintings by Zurbarán, El Greco, jewellery, etc . The image of Our Lady of Guadalupe is from the 12th/13th century. In the sacristy, built in the seventeenth century, are saved eight great works of the famous Extremadura painter called Francisco de Zurbarán, while other great paintings in the chapel are by Luca Giordano.
