Castle of Trevejo
Trevejo is an ancient Muslim fortress of the Sierra de Gata which still has the remains of the castle. Trevejo is declared "of cultural interest" in the category of "Historic-Artistic Complex" and is 12 km from our SPA Hotel in the Sierra de Gata.
Trevejo Castle, the monument that brought fame to the village, is nestled at the top reaching altitudes higher than 1000 meters, from where there are stunning views of its beauty. At the beginning it was a Muslim fortress, then the basis for the construction of the castle that belonged to the Knights Templar, and later on to the Order of St. John of Jerusalem.
What to see in Trevejo:
Ruins of the castle from the late 15th and early 16th centuries
‘Parroquia de San Juan Bautista’ located at the foot of the fortress.
‘Torre-espadaña’ attached to the church and part of the castle's defences.
