Acebo

Acebo is a lovely village in the heart of the Sierra de Gata, among fragrant orange orchards and olive groves. The parish church has a tower worth a visit. Looking out over the snowy range is a real pleasure, a perfect background for Acebo. The town is only 22 km from our SPA hotel in Sierra de Gata.

What to see in Acebo:

Its popular architecture (masonry facades with arched windows supported on columns, mud and timber houses), mansions with their heraldic shields reflect the economic power of the time and the origin of its people .

La Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de los Ángeles ('The Church of Our Lady of the Angels') is one of the most important monuments of northern Extremadura declared "of Cultural Interest" in the Monument category, combining different architectural styles from late gothic to some classical styles such as the “herreriano”.

Salto de agua de la Cervigona, a water jump, is an impressive waterfall of more than 70 meters high where only the Golden Eagle dares to live. The natural pools of Carreciá and Jevero are also worth a visit.

The traveller should not miss other towns such as Eljas and its famous castle, “Descargamaría” with its “Muladar el Larguijo”, where they feed the vultures. Then “Santibáñez el Alto” and its walled area. Take a pleasant walk through the picturesque towns that comprise this magical region of Sierra de Gata.
